India and New Zealand Discuss Free Trade Agreement, Direct Flights, and Simplified Customs for Traders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his New Zealand counterpart, Christopher Luxon, engaged in a high-level bilateral discussion on Monday, leading to the signing of multiple agreements aimed at enhancing trade, mobility, and economic cooperation between the two nations. Among the key agreements were improved customs procedures and the potential introduction of direct flights between India and New Zealand, which could boost business and tourism ties.

India’s Trade Deficit Narrows to $14 Billion in February

India’s merchandise exports saw a decline of 10.9% to $36.91 billion in February, while imports also dropped by 16.3% to $50.96 billion, resulting in a moderated trade deficit of $14 billion for the month, according to data from the commerce department. Despite a challenging financial year, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal stated that India remains on track to achieve a combined export target of $800 billion in goods and services for FY25.

Stock Market Update: Sensex Sees Volatility Amid Global Cues

In stock market movements, the BSE Sensex opened on an uncertain note despite positive global indicators. The index initially touched a low of 73,796, dropping 33 points in early trade. However, it soon gained momentum, rallying to a high of 74,376, marking a 400-point increase from the day’s low.
